Causes of Frequent Urination in Men

by donnagumapal on June 6, 2009

Frequent urination in men is a condition in which you have the sudden and uncontrollable urge to urinate more often than normal. Causes of frequent urination could be as simple as drinking too many fluids or having a bladder infection, but there are more common causes found in both men and women.

One of the causes of frequent urination in men could be due to an enlarged prostate. When the prostate gland is enlarged it affects the flow of urine and causes bladder irritation. You may feel the uncontrollable urge to urinate and find out that you only had to release a small amount of urine. A weak urine stream, delayed urination and painful urination may also be signs of an enlarged prostate.

Another possible reason for men having to urinate frequently may be because of a condition known as interstitial cystitis. This is basically when you have a chronic bladder infection. Other symptoms that stem from interstitial cystitis include pain in the pelvic area, pain during intercourse and urinary discomfort in general. In extreme cases individuals have had to urinate upwards of sixty times per day.

Some other less common causes include diabetes and radiation therapy. Diabetes has other symptoms that include feeling thirstier and more hungry than normal, as well and losing weight for no apparent reason. If you are a man and you’ve been experiencing frequent urination at night or at any other time of the day you should make an appointment to visit your local clinic to get examined by your primary care doctor. They will be able to diagnose whether or not you have a bladder infection, enlarged prostate or anything else they feel may be causing you to urinate frequently at night or otherwise.

Hi Racheal,

The cause of nocturia may be because of too much fluid intake in the morning, medication, health problem or overactive bladder. It is best if you list down your complete health history, other signs and symptoms you feel and the medications you take. Treatment should be according to the right diagnosis.

I am wondering why I seem to have more frequent urinations during the day (at work) than at night. I drink mostly water at the office save the occasional diet soda at lunch. Today I drank about 24 ounces of water at work in a 4 hour period and had to go urinate 4 times before lunch. I drink easily that much or more in the evenings (6 to midnight) at home but other then relieving myself just before bed and first thing in the morning, I never wake up in the night needing to go. Does sitting in an office chair create a faster process for the water I consume at work. I am a late 30′s white male with some hispanic ancestry.

I am really worried as frequent urination, two to three or even four times at night disturbs my sleep. Tests and scan carried out shows that my prostrate is perfectly in order. My sugar level is within limit and no infection has been detected in my urine.I drink water moderately. Please what other reasons can we adduce for this frequency in urination. Thanks

Hi Bruno,

I suggest that you may also check for your kidneys, ureter and bladder. This may help in detecting what may be the possible cause of the said problem.

Hi Bruno,

It seems that you are healthy, but have you checked for your bladder or kidney? I suggest that you also check for you kidney, ureter and bladder. maybe there are problems in these parts that you fail to see. It is better to be sure that to feel sorry in the end.

For the past few days after I got discharged from the hospital, I urinate more often than before. I don’t really drink a lot of water. During my stay in the hospital for 1 day, I was on drip for about 17 hours. Could this be the cause of it?

Hi,

Yes, it can be cause of your frequent urination, give it a couple of days and you will have a normal urination after that. Please drink right amount of water a day if it is not prohibited. If the frequency in urination still continues, report it to your doctor.

I am a male. Once on a cruise I left the cold ship and went on shore where it was extremely hot and I was going to the bathroom about every 10 minutes. When I returned to the ship the constant urination stopped. Why is this?

Hi Elmo,

The climate change may affect your frequency in urination. But I suggest that you go for a check up to know what may be the real cause of your problem. As soon that it causes you more pain and disturbing feeling, immediately ask for help.

Hi,

Frequent urination varies from one person to another depending on the cause of it. Sometimes a person drinks a lot of fluid that is why he or she urinates more often. But also, health problems like diabetes, prostate problem, overactive bladder may cause the said problem. Be sure to do the right assessment of your self to be able to manage and treat the problem.

I have days where I urinate quite abit somedays not so much. The Urologist checked my prostate said it seemed fine and that he was 99% sure it wasn’t prostititus. Blood work came back negative for Diabities. I am 31 this started in August last year. At times couldn’t urinate. Since my hernia surgery it’s been frequent urination. What could be causing this?

Hi,

There are many reasons why frequent urination happens, since you said it happens sometimes, the possible cause maybe the weather, your diet, drinking too much especially with alcohol and caffeine etc. It may be also related yo your hernia surgery since it involves the urinary system, That’s the closes to possible.

Hi,

Aortic aneurysm is a serious condition that really needs medical help. Because of the high level of cholesterol in your body the fats blocks the blood carrying oxygen to your body thus it results to numbness feeling. Are you taking medications that lowers cholesterol or hypertensive drugs? Those drugs results to frequent urination. Exercise will be a great help and a lifestyle change will do good for you. furthermore, have a check up so that you may know the status of your problem, because it may indicate a surgery or it may require just medications or changes to teat it.
